SHEDEUR Sanders' mom has leapt to her son's defence after an on-air verbal barrage from ESPN's Rex Ryan.

The former NFL coach branded Sanders, 23, an "embarrassment" during a filming of Get Up on Monday.

Quarterback rookie Sanders was drafted in the fifth round of this year's NFL Draft.

The son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders had been talked up as a potential first round pick.

But his draft stock collapsed before the Browns eventually selected him as the No. 144 pick.

Sanders is third on the depth chart in Cleveland and was overlooked in favor of rookie Dillon Gabriel during Sunday's loss to the Detroit Lions.

Ryan pulled no punches as Get Up discussed Sanders reaction to remaining on the bench after Joe Flacco was taken out of the game.
