The Sudbury Workers Education and Advocacy Centre is happy Ontario’s minimum wage is going up, but it’s still well short of what workers in Northern Ontario need to get by.

“Too many workers are still forced to take on two or even three jobs just to support their families,” Scott Florence, coordinator of the Sudbury Workers Education and Advocacy Centre, said in a release. “No one should have to sacrifice time with their loved ones or their health just to cover basic necessities. A $20 minimum wage is not just fair, it’s necessary.”

According to the Ontario Living Wage Network , the current living wage for Northern Ontario is $20.30 per hour — nearly three dollars more than the new minimum wage.
