SHELBY COUNTY, Kentucky — Drivers on Kentucky interstates will soon see new automated speed enforcement technology popping up in construction zones — and speeding through them could cost you a hefty fine.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is installing speed cameras along major roadways, including a stretch of I-64 near Shelbyville, to protect construction crews and improve safety for workers and motorists.

What to expect

Cameras will be placed in active construction zones and used only when roadwork is underway. According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the initiative is part of a recently enacted state law allowing automated speed enforcement in highway work zones.
