The fatal victim in Sunday’s early morning shooting on Bourbon Street was a Chicago hospital worker and single mother who had traveled to New Orleans to celebrate her birthday with family when she landed in the middle of a shootout, family members said Tuesday.
Jessica Williams had turned 33 about two hours before she was struck in the 200 block of Bourbon. Her sister, Davona Morgan, said the two were walking back to their hotel room when arguing between two men they didn't know turned to gunfire.
“We walked right through the argument,” Morgan said. “I looked over on the street, I see the fat guy clutching his gun. I told my sister... ‘Let’s walk faster.’”
Morgan said she was struck in the back from a bullet that broke a rib and lodged in her breast. Two others also were wounded.
