ALBANY, New York (WBNG) - The New York State Department of Health is awarding $19.5 million to 21 organizations across the state to support students pursuing education in healthcare.

The funds come from the Healthcare Education and Life-skills Program, or HELP, awards, provided by the New York State Department of Health’s Office of Healthcare Workforce Innovation.

Various organizations throughout the state, including educational institutions, hospitals, and Area Health Education Centers, will be provided with up to $1 million per year for five years.

The awards will help programs that offer students support and vital services, including academic advising and tutoring resources, tuition assistance, books & supplies, fees, and other class necessities.
