SACKETS HARBOR, New York (WWNY) - A North Country educator has been named the New York State School Superintendent of the Year.
Jennifer Gaffney, superintendent of the Sackets Harbor Central School District, was chosen for this year’s honor by the New York State Council of School Superintendents.
The council’s website says Gaffney’s tenure “has been marked by visionary yet practical leadership, and her work has drawn attention at the regional, state, and national levels for maximizing impact with limited resources.”
It noted that she “led with courage, compassion, and conviction” through both the COVID-19 pandemic and a recent immigration crisis, where federal agents detained three students .
The council will formally honor Gaffney in March. She will also represent New York state as
