Pansy Patch Park in Pembroke bustled with activity on Thursday, Sept. 25, as shovels hit the soil and saplings found new homes. More than 60 volunteers came together to plant 22 new trees, an effort sponsored by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) in partnership with the Pembroke Horticultural Society (PHS).

The planting was part of National Forestry Week, held annually during the last full week of September, and brought together an intergenerational mix of volunteers. Students from Algonquin College’s Forestry program, children and youth from BGC Renfrew County, and members of the PHS worked alongside CNL and AECL staff.
