WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - A Jefferson County Court jury has begun deliberations in the murder trial of Jonathan Melendez.
Melendez is accused of killing 88-year-old Rena Eves with a hammer in her town of Watertown home in 2023.
In court Tuesday morning, prosecutors cross-examined Melendez, who took the stand in his own defense.
They pointed out several inconsistencies in his testimony.
Melendez, who’s representing himself, and the prosecution presented their closing arguments to the jury.
The prosecution laid out the evidence, while Melendez again accused investigators and other officials of framing him on behalf of the Freemasons. He presented no evidence to back up that claim.
“If I wasn’t representing myself, I think this case would be going a whole lot different than it is now
