TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Leon County Sheriff’s Office is expanding its “Anatomy of a Homicide” project to better understand the root causes of crime in the community.
Originally released in 2021, the first phase of the study analyzed 141 homicides in Leon County between 2015 and 2020 by looking at the location, race, and sex of the offenders and victims.
“We got to looking at the circumstances and the context behind those people,” said Sara Bourdeau, executive director of the office’s research, analysis, planning, and innovation division.
Bordeau led the first research project. She said it gave LCSO a clearer understanding of who was committing violent crimes and the factors that may have led to them.
