PAIA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE) announced Friday that Paia Elementary School will remain closed through Oct. 14.

The announcement comes more than two weeks after a nearby brush fire that broke out Tuesday , Sept. 23.

The school was closed following the fire in an effort to clean up harmful soot residue.

Distance learning began Wednesday, Oct. 1.

HIDOE said environmental clean-up efforts on campus are completed, and officials continue to test for heavy metals.
