DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A woman is accused of trying to help the suspect in the 1999 murder of a Durham teenager avoid capture, warrants show.
According to the Durham Police Department, 19-year-old Jesus Enrique Garza was shot to death while inside a vehicle on North Miami Boulevard on Sept. 19, 1999.
Saturnino Gutierrez-Garcia was identified as the suspect days after the shooting and was charged with murder. He remained at large for more than 24 years until he was located and arrested in Mount Airy by the Surry County Sheriff's Office on Oct. 7, 2023, according to Durham police.
