OCRACOKE, N.C. (WITN) - Hurricane Imelda is being felt now along our coast.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has closed Highway 12 on Ocracoke Island due to high winds and overwash.

The road is shut down between the ferry terminal and the National Park Service Pony Pens.

The DOT has crews on Ocracoke working on the dunes this afternoon.

The highway is expected to remain closed, as well as the ferry between Ocracoke and Hatteras Island, until Thursday morning.
