GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Like many patients, a diagnosis for prostate cancer came out of nowhere for Grand Rapids resident Larry Vaughn.
“It was scary at the time,” Vaughn said. “No symptoms. I thought I felt good.”
He is grateful every day for the early screening that caught it.
“If I wouldn’t have went to the doctor every six months and get checkups … I wouldn’t even be here today,” Vaughn said.
He said a blood test from his doctor was the first indicator that something was wrong.
"So then after that, I did a biopsy and went through the procedure to get a biopsy and then found out that I had cancer," Vaughn said. "And so at that point, I had to figure out what’s my best option to go either radiation or just to have my prostate removed, so I end up getting it removed."
