Roseville police restarted the chase of a 16-year-old boy driving a stolen car after Clinton Township police terminated it, culminating in the teen crashing into a vehicle and killing a 28-year-old Royal Oak man.
Details of the chase were revealed Monday during the preliminary examination for Daniel Shane Canales, 16, who is charged with second-degree murder and other offenses on the allegation he caused a crash at 11 Mile Road and Van Dyke in Warren during a police pursuit of him last July that killed Alex Haibib, whose vehicle was broadsided.
Canales’ attorney, Robbie Lang, alleged after the hearing that Roseville police’s resumption of the chase in pursuit of a suspect of a nonviolent felony – a stolen vehicle – contributed to the crash.
