Oklahoma offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle said Tuesday that quarterback John Mateer is handling his hand injury and recovery “like a pro” as the Sooners prepare for their home game against Kent State.

Mateer, a Heisman hopeful, underwent surgery on his throwing hand last week and is expected to miss several weeks. Arbuckle said Mateer’s competitive nature drives him to stay engaged and committed to his teammates.
