SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The Great Plains Zoo provided an update on one of its newest additions on Tuesday.
According to the zoo , the cub and its mother, Denali, will have access to the public-facing snow leopard habitat starting this week, with the father, Strut, having access to the exhibit on alternating days.
They said it will be up to Denali and the cub whether or not they venture out or stay behind the scenes, and that male snow leopards do not participate in raising cubs in the wild.
Zoo officials are asking for the public’s help in choosing the name for the cub, after narrowing options down to three names: Asha, Isha, and Maiya.
All three names come from the Nepalese language, which is where snow leopards are native.
