Jeanne-Lajoie Catholic elementary school marked Franco-Ontarian Day on Sept. 25 with a day of celebrations that connected students to both local and provincial history.
The morning began with a flag-raising ceremony in front of the entire school community. Grade 3 teacher Josée Amyotte and instructional coach Josée Lafortune were chosen to hoist the green-and-white Franco-Ontarian flag, a symbol of French-language pride and culture in Ontario. Both women have ties to Sudbury, where the flag was first raised 50 years ago. Lafortune grew up there, while Amyotte was raised in the city.
