Boston police are asking for the public to help identify a group of men who were allegedly involved in an assault on a gay couple in Mattapan earlier this month.

Officials on Monday released photos of the men taken from security cameras and published the images on the Boston Police Department’s website .

The violence was reported the evening of Sept. 13 near 550 River St. and is being investigated as a hate crime against gay people, according to an incident report.

The investigation was ongoing as of Monday.

During the alleged assault, a man was struck in the head with a baseball bat and his partner was attacked after confronting a group of men, according to the report.
