MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Harry Shimotsu Elementary in Mission has been recognized as a 2025 Lone Star Ribbon School.

The Lone Star Ribbon program, which replaces the National Blue Ribbon School designation, was announced by Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday. This program highlights schools that demonstrate outstanding academic performance and progress in closing achievement gaps.

"This recognition reflects the dedication, heart, and passion our teachers pour into every student every day. Our Shimotsu family is truly extraordinary," said Principal Claudia Garza.

Sharyland ISD Superintendent Dr. Elaine Howard expressed her pride, stating, "We are blessed to have such outstanding educators, students, and families whose hard work and commitment to excellence make moments like this possible
