OCEAN CITY — Well, never mind.
After an investigation, the city will not pursue the purchase of 801 Asbury Ave. as a potential new public safety building, city officials announced Tuesday afternoon.
“The administration has performed the appropriate due diligence to consider such acquisition, and has reviewed this with City Council,” reads a statement released by city spokesman Doug Bergen. “Based on all available information, the mayor and council have determined it is not in the best interests of the city to move forward with the purchase of 801 Asbury.”
The city has a $30 million plan to renovate the current public safety building on Central Avenue, and as part of that plan had rented space in 801 Asbury for police and for offices for the municipal court.
