AXTELL, Texas — Two of Central Texas’ hottest teams are set to collide this week as Valley Mills and Axtell meet for a pivotal district matchup.

Both teams enter at 4-1 overall and 1-0 in district play, but their journeys have been defined by stingy defenses and playoff ambitions.

Valley Mills has been one of the area’s biggest surprises, rebounding from a 3-7 finish last season to become a playoff contender. The Eagles have already recorded three shutout victories, leaning on a defense that has smothered opponents. Their one loss came against De Leon, 41-21, but the Eagles bounced back quickly and have built momentum behind their rushing attack.
