An unknown hacker stole sensitive data from two federal agencies this summer, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The weeks-long hacking incident was described as widespread data theft, and the two agencies targeted were FEMA and Customs and Border Protection.

Senior officials with IT at the Department of Homeland Security underwent an urgent cleanup operation as a result of the hacking.
