SPOKANE, Wash. – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) affirmed that Spokane International Airport (GEG) will remain open and operational in the event of a government shutdown.

If Congress doesn’t authorize a spending bill on Tuesday night, a shutdown will be triggered. This would prompt the furloughing of non-essential federal workers and temporarily close some federal operations.

“Air Traffic Controllers, TSA Agents, and other airport personnel are deemed to be essential workers,” Public Information Officer for the FAA Northwest Mountain Region Kiiva Williams wrote in a press release. “We appreciate our federal partners’ commitment and dedication to the safety of the traveling public.”
