GRAND BLANC TWP., Mich. (WILX) - As authorities continue to search for a motive in Sunday’s deadly church shooting and fire in Grand Blanc Township, friends of the shooter — 40-year-old Thomas Sanford of Burton — are speaking out.
Sanford drove his truck into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints — more widely known as the Mormon church — before firing shots from a rifle and setting fire to the church.
Four people were killed and eight others were taken to the hospital. Sanford was killed while exchanging gunfire with police.
Local, state and federal authorities are still working to determine exactly what drove Sanford to carry out the attack.
