A man with a gun in his car who tried to enter the crime scene of Sunday's shooting and arson at a Mormon church in Grand Blanc Township is not thought to have had any role in the attack and did not have bad intentions, the township police chief said in a new message.
Chief William Renye said Tuesday in a video message posted to Facebook that a 22-year-old man tried to enter the crime scene from the west perimeter, but was stopped by a Grand Blanc police officer, who noticed a .22-caliber rifle in the man's passenger seat.
He was arrested and interviewed by the FBI, which has taken over as the lead agency in the investigation. But Renye said in his video the man now is not believed to have any role in Sunday's attack.
