Northeast Ohio Strengthening Manufacturing for American Resilience through Technology, a Case Western Reserve University-led consortium also known as NEO-SMART, has been selected as one of 15 finalists in the U.S. National Science Foundation’s Regional Innovation Engines Program.

NEO-Smart was announced as one of 29 semifinalists in July and made the cut to the final round, which will include an in-person site visit sometime in the next few months, Case Western announced in a Sept. 19 news release. The national competition is for up to $160 million over 10 years, the release said.

NSF Engines is designed to advance critical technologies, such as artificial intelligence and biotechnology, to help drive economic growth, enhance national security and generate jobs.
