SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Springfield man has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for stealing mail from residential mailboxes.

U.S. District Judge Stephen Bough sentenced Anthony Renell Williams, 45, on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Williams pleaded guilty on March 31 to a federal charge of mail theft stemming from a March 16, 2023, incident.

Witnesses reported seeing Williams walking through Springfield neighborhoods and stopping at several mailboxes. Springfield Police Department (SPD) officers responded and found stolen mail in his possession. U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPS) investigators later obtained security footage from area homes showing Williams taking mail from mailboxes.
