PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- Lawmakers have until Tuesday midnight to pass a continuing resolution to avoid a federal government shutdown.

This could negatively impact Peoria, which has eighty federal employees with the United States Agriculture Department that could be affected by a shutdown, according to U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood.

U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen said at the Quad Cities International Airport that veterans could have their benefits affected by a government shutdown.

Sorensen said he's in Washington, ready to vote to stop a shutdown. LaHood said he's already voted to stop a shutdown.

"We've done our job in the House," LaHood said. "We've had two weeks to work with the Democrats on a clean continuing resolution to keep the government funding."
