The San Francisco LGBT Center’s new executive director is a familiar face who says her goal is to increase connection and community among The City’s LGBTQ residents amid the challenges they face under the second Trump administration.

Jen Valles, a Bay Area LGBTQ-rights activist for more than 20 years, has served in leadership roles with the center since 2007. She most recently became the center’s deputy director in June.

Valles will replace outgoing Executive Director Rebecca Rolfe in January. Rolfe announced in June that she would step down from the role.

“Connection is one of our values, and we are in a moment of time where all of us are needed,” Valles told The Examiner, saying she aims to expand the center’s support network during her tenure.
