LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - With the potential government shutdown , Medicare and Medicaid may be affected.

According to The New York Times , Medicare benefits will remain uninterrupted, as the federal government has sufficient funds to cover Medicaid for the first quarter of the next fiscal year. However, some services may experience interruptions.

Healthcare professionals in Laredo have identified the area as medically underserved , with the situation possibly worsening if funding is reduced.
