NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - For nearly 50 of WSMV4’s rich 75-year history, Channel 4 has had something few television stations could replicate: Snowbird!

The beloved mascot was the source of school closing information for many children and parents. Over the year, the words “no school, no school” and the Snowbird theme song brought kids running to the TV.

Greg Page, one of Snowbird’s creators and the owner of PK Pictures, said it all started as a cutout of a penguin on the weather set.

“Back in the mid-70s, there was a cardboard cutout at WSMV, and when it snowed, the booth announcer would go, ‘No school, no school,’ and that was Snowbird.”

From that humble beginning, Snowbird took on a life of its own.
