RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina is bracing for substantial cuts to federal hunger relief programs. The nonprofit is now banding together with another organization to continue feeding families, in what's being called "a crisis."

The Food Bank now says one in seven people are facing food insecurities and community leaders are trying to tackle the potential hurdles ahead.

Food Bank Spokesperson Jason Stephay says the federal government has eliminated millions of dollars in funding that food banks used to purchase fresh produce or meat from local farms.

There have also been cuts to the federal SNAP program.
