AUSTIN, Texas — Travis County Jail inmates will soon have a new way to get health care.
Certain inmates will be able to get telehealth appointments through Central Health.
Inmates will first meet in-person with Travis County Jail medical staff. Depending on the circumstances, the jail staff can refer the inmates to Central Health for appointments with specialists, either virtually or in person.
Central Health already offers a variety of specialty care services to inmates, including podiatry, cardiology and rheumatology. It could add more specialty care services in the future.
The Travis County judge said these telehealth options for inmates will improve patient outcomes while saving taxpayer dollars.
"Everyone in our community deserves access to quality health care," said Travis Count
