NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Tuesday night, hundreds of people will be walking a mile in Niagara Falls to remember the children impacted by residential boarding schools.

It's part of Orange Shirt Day meant to educate people about the impact Indigenous residential schools had on generations of Native Americans and Canadians. The Every Child Matters walk is a time of reflection, and it's also a way to promote awareness about the past so it isn't repeated.

The Thomas Indian School operated in Irving, where children were stripped of their Native culture and often abused until its closure in 1957.
