The Hillshire Brands Company is recalling about 58 million pounds of corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products after reports of wood pieces embedded in the batter, federal food safety officials announced .
The products, packaged between March 17 and Sept. 26, were sold nationwide in retail stores, online and to food service locations, including schools and Department of Defense facilities, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said. The products sent to schools were not part of the USDA’s National School Lunch Program.
The recall was triggered after several consumer complaints, including five injuries. Hillshire’s investigation found that wooden sticks entered the production process before battering. The FSIS warned that the products could stil
