SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- A former board member of a middle school PTO has been accused of stealing nearly $65,000 from the organization.

52-year-old Kristen Pyer was arrested Tuesday by the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office after an 18-month investigation revealed evidence she stole money from the PTO bank account and pocketed proceeds from fundraising events.

NewsChannel 9 was the only news organization to witness Pyer's arraignment on Tuesday evening. Judge Young allowed NewsChannel 9 to record portions of the proceedings.

Pyer is charged with falsifying business records and grand larceny.

In May of 2024, NewsChannel 9 reported an investigation into the PTO's missing funds. At the time, a new board had been elected to the newly-named PTG and reviewed the organization's finances.
