AMES, Iowa (KCRG) - Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell announced starting cornerback and preseason All-Big 12 selection Jontez Williams will miss the rest of the season.

The redshirt junior appeared to injure his knee late in the fourth quarter against Arizona. The Cyclones had a 36-14 lead.

“That’s a situation that really stinks for the kid, but man just how’s he’s handled it has been uber impressive,” said Campbell. “Great human, he’ll be back and ready to rock and roll next season.”

ISU has lost two starting defensive backs in the last few weeks, after Jeremiah Cooper was declared out for the rest of the season.

Iowa State will have to rely on more inexperienced defensive backs like Quentin Taylor, Trey Bell, Ta’Shawn James and David Coffey.
