INDEPENDENCE, Mo. —
Voters in Jackson County are casting ballots Tuesday in a historic recall election targeting County Executive Frank White.
It’s the first time since the county charter created the position 55 years ago that voters have had the chance to recall a county executive. Advertisement
At polling sites in Independence, KMBC 9’s Krista Tatschl reported a modest but steady stream of voters throughout the day.
Jackson County voter Lucy Young said she voted early and wanted to make her voice heard.
“I early voted on the square, and I’m trying to be part of the democratic process here in the city of Independence,” Young said. “You can see how people are so upset because their taxes have increased. It’s definitely an oversight on his part to think that we were going to face it.
