ARLINGTON, Va. (DC News Now) -- Those pesky spotted lanternflies aren’t going away any time soon.
Arlington officials warn that even more of them are expected next year.
“That's not good news, because we don't want more,” said Arlington resident Elizabeth Ngwafor.
Officials say the insects are expected to die off after the first freeze, but their eggs can survive the winter.
“Everybody's been complaining,” said Ngwafor. “They've been kind of a lot lately. ... They are pretty annoying.”
ARLNow reports Arlington County natural resources experts say the spotted lanternfly populations will continue to trend upwards for another year or two.
