Dyon Smart wanted revenge for his ex finally kicking him out — so he decided to kill the person most important to her.

Her five-year-old son.

So while the mom slept on July 19, 2018, Smart slipped into the boy’s bedroom and led him in the dark from his Brampton townhome to an isolated wooded area near a rail line. Because he looked up to Smart as his stepfather, the trusting child went along but soon realized this was not a friendly outing.

The boy, who can only be identified as D, began to scream, “mommy, mommy, mommy” so loud a neighbour could hear — but he could not come to his aid. Smart unleashed what a judge would call “merciless violence” — stopping only when he assumed the little boy was dead.

It’s a miracle that he wasn’t.
