WASHINGTON, D.C. – With a government shutdown looming, President Trump and congressional leaders met yesterday at the White House but left without reaching a compromise.

As the midnight deadline approaches, the Senate remains deadlocked. Republicans are pushing for a short-term agreement to prevent the shutdown while Democrats aim to advance policy goals on health care.

If the government shuts down, millions of federal workers will go unpaid, and thousands will be furloughed. Although employees would receive backpay after the shutdown ends, local governments can only temporarily patch up the gaps.

Concerns are growing nationwide, with potential impacts on air travel, federal grant funds and overall customer service.
