FARGO — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded an additional $13 million for continued construction of the Fargo-Moorhead Area Diversion project’s 21-mile earthen embankment.
According to a press release from the office of U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., the Corps awarded a more than $13 million contract modification to R.J. Zavoral & Sons of East Grand Forks, Minn. The company is working on Reach SE-2B, a stretch of embankment that goes from Horace to the Wild Rice River structure.
Earlier, R.J. Zavoral & Sons was awarded a $42.2 million contract for the work.
The earthen embankment will hold back water from the Red River during extreme floods. Floodwater will be diverted around the Fargo-Moorhead metro through a diversion channel. The diversion project is expected to be opera
