Visitors to Belle Isle may find an unlikely inhabitant in the Detroit island park after the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said a reported alligator sighting there has been deemed "credible and consistent."
The agency received a report about a reptile Friday, and while DNR personnel have not spotted the animal themselves, experts verified the reported based on geo-location data from a photo, a DNR spokesperson said.
"We remind all visitors: do not approach any wild animal, regardless of size," the DNR said in a statement. "Though the reported animal appears small, all wildlife can be dangerous and unpredictable. If you observe unusual wildlife activity, please report it immediately to the Report All Poaching hotline at (800) 292-7800."
