LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- On the eve of the eighth anniversary of the 1 October massacre in Las Vegas, retired Metro captain Joshua Bitsko - one of the first people to lay eyes on the corpse of the mass shooter - has released a book with his firsthand account of that night.

In The Courage to Live, Bitsko recounts his team forcing its way into the two hotel suites at Mandalay Bay that gunman Stephen Paddock used to stage his crime. The book also serves as a teaching tool for first responders and businesses looking to deal with stress, grief, and trauma.
