A Tulsa County deputy and two other people were standing just feet away when a car exploded Monday afternoon near 11th and Garnett. Thankfully, nobody was hurt.
The deputy had stopped to help the people in the car because it had caught fire.
Deputy Joe Peters had only been on scene with the people for less than a minute when the car exploded. If they were any closer, they could have been hurt or even killed.
"The car just, boom," said Deputy Peters. "I definitely felt the singe on my right side."
Deputy Peters was grabbing lunch in the area when he saw a car smoking on the side of the road with two people standing next to it, so he stopped to help.
"As I was approaching the car and trying to secure the area, the car, it just exploded," said Peters.
