TALLADEGA Co., Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Lincoln Police Department says a 3-year-old somehow got access to a gun and shot and killed their father . It happened Monday morning on Taryn Trace.

The police chief is urging you to store your guns away from children so the community can avoid another tragedy like this.

Police Chief Scott Bonner says whether you have kids at home or not, properly storing your gun is of the utmost importance.

“One of our investigators has been here since ’97 and he can’t recall an incident of this magnitude with such a young child,” said the chief. “It’s very tragic and I hope we never see it again.”

To prevent a similar shooting, Chief Bonner is encouraging you to use a gun lock and keep your weapons hidden away.
