JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Johnson City Rotary Club unveiled a new "Peace Pole" on Tuesday at Rotary Park.

The monument is part of an international movement that aims to remind community members to "cultivate peace in thought, word, and action while symbolizing humanity’s shared desire for a world at peace and in harmony with all of creation," according to the movement's website.

Along with the unveiling, families picnicked in the park and heard from local leaders and Rotary Club members.

President of Johnson City's Rotary Club Cyrus Fees told News Channel 11 that the pole features the phrase "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in eight different languages, a trademark of the international movement.
