Cleveland — Perhaps no one is as optimistic about the Detroit Tigers' chances of advancing past division rival the Cleveland Guardians in the wild card series as Rhonda Mize.
And it's not just because her son, Casey Mize, was named the Game 2 starting pitcher against the Guardians just before the start of Game 1, a year after being left off the postseason roster. The Tigers won 2-1 on Tuesday and would advance to the next round to play the Seattle Mariners if they win on Wednesday.
Mize and her husband, Jason Mize, received the news from their son that he would start Game 2 via a text message.
"I'm game 2 starter," the text read.
"That was it," his mother said.
