DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - The Des Moines Public School Board has accepted Dr. Ian Roberts’ resignation effective immediately, as several investigations are underway into Roberts’ past.

Roberts notified the board earlier Tuesday about his decision.

Monday, the board voted to place Roberts on unpaid administrative leave after the Department of Homeland Security shared documents regarding his citizenship status.

Federal immigration agents apprehended Roberts on Friday, following up on an immigration judge’s ruling last year that Roberts, a native of Guyana, needed to leave the country.

The school board gave Roberts and his attorney until Tuesday at noon to provide citizenship documents, or the board could fire Roberts.
