The workers fell from a height of 45 metres at the North Chennai Thermal Power Station
The bodies of the nine construction workers from Assam who fell to their death at the North Chennai Thermal Power Station, will reach Guwahati airport tonight at around 2 AM, officials said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the deaths and have announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has offered Rs 10 lakh to the families of each of the deceased.
The 9 workers – 4 from Karbi Anglong district and 5 from Hojai district, died when the iron scaffolding from which they were working, crashed at the site of the power plant in the Ennore Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Tiruvallur district adjoining Chennai.
